My chameleon is thin, not eating, and has tongue issues. What can I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Reptile | Chameleon | Male | unneutered | 4 years and 6 months old

Around two week ago he stopped sticking with his tongue, was told possible bad eye sight. He was still eating as he just was fed legless crickets or horn worms (had to he cut to small peice). About a week ago he no longer was eating. He has only at crickets that are killed and dusted. His best day he ate five today one barely. Tonight he got a shower and then ate (same way) 7 crickets. What can I do to make my cham better.

Thanks for reaching out about Rango and including photos. He looks very thin. Kidney disease is very common in middle-aged and older chameleons. Calcium and vitamin A deficiencies are often associated with tongue problems. A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Continue to try to provide lots of fluids, orally or misting to stimulate drinking. Good lukc.
