Should I remove my senior dog's bladder tumor for her quality of life?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 10 years and 10 months old | 64 lbs

I took my 11 year old pit bull mix to the vet for uti and they found a tumor in her bladder. The suggestion is to remove it and send away to be tested or biopsy it to be tested. I don’t have a problem with money but want quality of life for her remaining years. Suggestions?? I don’t really want to put her through radiation. If I remove it that will keep it from blocking her ability to urinate but could it take less time off her life? Looking for educated advice

I think it's worth doing the surgery to see if it is anything serious. Removing it may improve MJ's quality of life if it is cancerous. Doing this doesn't necessarily mean she needs radiation, you can make that decision depending on the results of the biopsy. Her quality of life will go down if she can't urinate because of it, so I do think removing it would be a good idea. I hope this helps!
