My dog has severe skin problems and eye discharge. What's happening?

Isabella needs to be examined by the veterinarian today. Signs like this are concerning for a scratch on the eye or something trapped in the eye. These conditions are not only very painful but they can also get worse quickly. She also needs to wear an elizabethan collar at all times to stop any rubbing. Have her examined quickly so she is out of pain and gets the correct treatment.

It sounds like there are a few things going on with Izzy. It sounds like she has a bad ear infection and may also have a skin infection. This cannot be treated at home, you have to take her into a vet asap.

First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). Nutritional support may be needed. Oh no poor Belinda! She could have a foreign body in her eye or a severe eye infection. Unfortunately I’m not sure what you mean by her “eye’s skin,” but I’m wondering if you are referrring to the outer layer of her eye. If that’s what you mean, she could have an ulcer in her eye. The symptoms you are describing are extremely severe and constitute a medical emergency. She has to see a vet now or she could risk losing vision in that eye forever. The itching in the area can be caused by dry eye, which can cause an ulcer in the cornea, conjunctivitis, or eye pain for an number of conditions. To keep Bella comfortable until she is seen by a vet, you can get her an E-collar (or "cone") to prevent her from scratching/pawing/rubbing the area and causing further trauma. The dry areas on Ivy's back could be from a skin infection, or it could be due to allergies. The discharge fro her eye could be due to an eye infection. Any eye infection has to be checked out by a vet promptly as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Please take her into a vet today.

Poor girl. If she is a young dog, I would be highly suspicious of demodex mites or scabies. You will have to get her seen by your vet for proper testing of her skin and then medication to help resolve not only the underlying issue, but the secondary skin infection she has. Squinting the eye abnormally could be caused by pain which could be caused by a variety of conditions, including allergies, bacterial or viral infection, corneal abrasion or ulcer, or something stuck under the eyelids. The discharge you described could occur with any of these conditions. I would recommend that you have Bella examined by a vet since eyes can go downhill very quickly. The vet will do a thorough exam and may need to do one or two tests to determine what is going on so they can select an appropriate treatment.
