Dog's eye touched rabbit poop. Will it cause infection? Symptoms?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 6 months old | 20 lbs

My dog was rubbing her face next to some old rabbit poop and a piece of poop might have touched her eye...but I don’t know for sure. If it did touch the surface of her eye, will that cause an infection??? What symptoms would show up and how soon??

Probably not. The tear film and constant flushing of the eyes with tears should wash away any infection from simply touching a gross thing. If Zoe starts squinting or having eye discharge, it would be best to have her evaluated by a vet.
