My dog's paw is red, swollen, and she keeps licking it. Is it urgent?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 9 years and 7 months old | 65 lbs

Dog started licking her paw 2 days ago. Red and inflamed. Put an E collar to prevent more licking. Can't see the vet till tomorrow. Swelling has spread to the wrist. Is this emergent?

It is certainly abnormal. If Lola is eating and drinking normally and has a normal activity level, it could probably wait until the morning. But since I can't do an examination, I can't tell you for sure or not that it is emergent. You will have to use your best judgement.
