My senior dog sleeps more and hides to nap. Should I be worried?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Kelpie | Male | neutered | 11 years and 10 months old | 18 lbs

Our Australia terrier will be thirteen and all he does is eat n sleep . He played with his toys all last year finding his favorite wanting us to play with him. He still can jump up and sleep in bed but lately he prefers under the bed or bathroom to nap? Should we be worried?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Zippy. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian. He may be experiencing pain from arthritis or could have developed a disease that is contributing to his behavior changes. If there is something that can be diagnosed, then there may be treatment options to help keep him more comfortable. After his examination, laboratory work may be recommended. I hope this information helps!
