My dog sounds like he has kennel cough. What home remedies help?

My dog recently got into my sons spaghettios and became sick from them. Once that got out of his system, yesterday morning he woke me up with him making honking noises. I think he may have kennel cough. Is there are at home remedies i can help alleviate some of the symptoms?

Poor Teddy. You can try taking him into the bathroom with you when you take a shower or put him in a room with a humidifier. The steam from either may help with any congestion. Rest him. Take him out to potty on a harness to avoid pressure on his neck. Have him seen by a vet on Monday to get medication for his symptoms.

    Thank you for submitting your question regarding Teddy. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian. He may have an upper respiratory tract infection. It is generally characterized by a hacking cough and affected dogs will frequently bring up a white foamy material. In the meantime, keep him close to home as he may be contagious to other dogs. I would take Kai into a vet first thing in the morning. Tonight, rest him. If he's congested, try bringing him into the bathroom when you take a shower to see if the steam helps. You can also put him in a room with a humidifier. In the morning, the vet can confirm he has kennel cough, and can give medication to help with his symptoms. Raw honey should not be fed to puppies, so I would not give him any. Best of luck.

There's really nothing that can be given at home to lessen the duration of the condition. Keep him warm and rested, away from other dogs and be patient. If he hasn't been seen by a vet, it's a good idea to since he may need antibiotics to help him recover faster. If he's coughing so much he cannot sleep or rest, that's another reason to get him seen so he can be prescribed cough suppressants. An occasional spoonful of honey can coat his throat and help suppress the cough temporarily.

I think my dog has kennel cough what can i gibe him at home
Kennel Cough is typically viral. I recommend putting Tobu in the bathroom while you shower so the steam will help. Typically I recommend a veterinarian to make sure it is kennel cough and to make sure his lungs are clear. If you did not want to take Tobu to a vet then if the coughing gets worse, he becomes lethargic, anorexic or has difficulty breathing he does need a veterinarian. Kennel cough can develop into a secondary bacterial infection and they can get bronchitis or pneumonia with it. Always remember it is contagious so keep him away from other dogs. My boy has the bordetella shot, went to training camp for 3 weeks and returned with a cold like symptom. Has a lot of clear and yellowish mucus, he is eating a Banana and 1/2 cup of dried food daily. My vet recommended Amocixilin 250 every 8 hrs and

Keep your dog in a well-humidified area, and use a harness instead of a collar to minimize coughing. Rest your dog for at least seven days to minimize irritation of the airways caused by excessive coughing. Give any medications as prescribed by your veterinarian. You can bring your dog into the bathroom with you while you have a shower, as the steam may help with the respiratory irritation. I hope this helps!

My dog sounds congested like many of us humans get this time of year. The vet isn't open until Friday is there anything I can do to relieve the congestion and constant sneezing?
Yes, there are a few home remedies you can try to see if that helps with Rosco's congestion. I would bring him into the bathroom with the door closed while you take a hot shower - the steam and humidity help to break up congestion and temporarily relieve symptoms associated with respiratory infections. You can also put him in a small room with a humidifier to see if that helps with his congestion. Do not give him any human medications for his congestion, many are toxic to dogs. If he's still suffering with the congestion on Friday, take him into the vet.

my dog is coughing and trying to vomit out the mucus but the mucus won’t come out so he is probably feeling uncomfortable. what can i do for him? are there any home remedies? i am coughing as welll so could it be that he got it from me?
Thank you for submitting your question regarding your dog. It sounds like he has an upper respiratory tract infection based on the symptoms you have described. He will need to see his veterinarian if the coughing persists. In the meantime, you can turn the shower to hot and close the bathroom door. Allow the steam to build up. Then place him in the bathroom to breathe the warm humid air. This can ease congestion. It is unlikely that he acquired the infection from you, but it is possible. I hope this information helps!

Hi my dog has kennel cough what are some of the ways to help him fight it off?
Kennel cough is usually self limiting, lasting about 2 weeks with or without treatment. The cough can linger for longer though. You can discuss cough suppressant use with your veterinarian. There are prescription and OTC medications available. Do not medicate your dog without the advice of your vet. You can run a hot shower for 10-15 minutes then place Brown in the bathroom (NOT in the shower) for 15-20 minutes. The steam may loosen chest congestion. Just got my puppy bout 2 weeks ago and last week he started coughing sounds like he's choking I took him to the vet they said it's kennel cough , he's had it for about a week now and it doesn't seem like it's going away , is there anything I can give
Poor Thor. There aren't any over the counter cough medications that I recommend. I'm assuming the vet sent you home with antibiotics for Thor. If he has been on antibiotics for the past week and is still coughing this badly, he should go back to the vet for x-rays of his chest. If the vet did not sent you home with antibiotics, see if you can get an appointment tomorrow for reevaluation. Tonight, you can take Thor in to the bathroom and run a hot shower to steam up the room for 15-20 minutes - the moist air can be soothing. Running a humidifier will accomplish the same effect. Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do at home for Thor, but hopefully you can get in to the clinic tomorrow. Good luck to you and little Thor!
