My dog has fleas and sores. What flea treatment is best for all pets?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 4 months old | 91 lbs

Hello, Ollie has some fleas, there are two indoor cats in the home also. We had a pest professional come out for an estimate, and the home will be treated this week. We were combing him today and found two sores. We don't know if it's from scratching or a reaction from the fleas. We did notice fleas trying to go to the sores. He is 1 year and 4 months old, Not sure what to do... Thanks!

Hi there. I would recommend getting all pets in the home started on a good quality prescription flea control medication like Nexgard or Bravecto for Ollie, and Revolution or Bravecto for the cats. Once you've done this and had your home treated to get rid of any fleas or flea eggs still remaining in the environment, you should be in good shape as long as you keep everyone current on their flea treatments going forward.
