Why does my cat drool, hiss, and act scared then return to normal?

Question

Cat is drooling thick ribbons of drool, hisses and makes louder than usual noises, wants to be let out of the house immediately (almost as if he's in a panic), and then acts as if he is afraid of us and runs from us. This has happened 3 times now. It lasts a day or two, then he goes back to his normal behaviors of being friendly and social. Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 12 years and 3 months old | 10 lbs
