My rabbit has a cut lip and isn't drinking. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | unneutered

We’re not sure how he cut his lip we think that he jumped off his house in his cage. He was in shock and didn’t fuss when we picked him up. We checked his teeth last night and they seem okay. He hasn’t drank from his bottle all night. Stayed in the position we put him back in. He’s taken treats but we’ve had to break them in half. We’ve cleaned the blood off with warm water and cotton pads. How do we keep it from getting infected or what else to look out for if there’s something else wrong ?

Thanks for reaching out about Tyrion and including photos. A veterinary visit is recommended to assess, teeth can be fractured below the gum line. Antibiotics need to be prescribed by a veterinarian only after a veterinary visit but is also needed to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Try offering water with a syringe, food can be wetted down and also offered through a syringe. Good luck.
