Is my dog in pain? She's sucking blankets and kneading them.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 6 months old | 145 lbs

We have a 1 year old female pit bull mix and occasionally she likes to bunch up one of her blankets and stuff it in her mouth and she seems to simply suck on it while her paws sometimes kneed the blanket around her, like kittens do when nursing. Tonight I just realized she's been at it for almost 2 hours and much more furiously than before. She wouldn't let the blanket out of her mouth for me and was leaning on me like she would if a leg was injured. Is this a sign she's in pain?

Hi and thanks for your request. Considering your description I do not find/recognize any possible sign of pain. If these episodes persist a check up would be needed as a physical examination could spot more specific signs.
