Is a blister on my dog's spay incision normal 2 weeks after surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 47 lbs

My dog is 17 days post spay surgery. Her incision has looked great so far but last night there was a blister on it. This morning it looked less swollen but not as good as it had before. She's still eating and acting normal. No fever or discharge or smell. Is this normal?

This could be a local tissue reaction to the internal sutures. It can happen, and it's good that it's gone down. Keep an eye on it, and if it gets bigger or doesn't go away, have Nova seen by a vet.

Thank you for providing a picture of Chloe's incision! It looks like it's healing really well to me, and the bump could be a local tissue reaction to the internal sutures. Keep an eye on it, and if it gets bigger or doesn't resolve, have her seen by a vet because it could be a seroma (localized pocket of fluid in the surgical space). Best of luck, I hope it helps!
