My full-term pregnant cat is bleeding, but no kittens. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 4 months old | 9 lbs

My cat is pregnant and full term. She started bleeding yesterday around 3 and still is today. She seems fine and is still using the litter box but no babies yet? Should I be concerned?

If it's been more than several hours and Sparkle hasn't gone into labor or given birth to a kitten, but is actively bleeding, etc, it would be best to bring her to a vet ASAP. It is possible there is a stuck kitten or another complication that should be addressed by your vet.

Blood is not a normal finding before labor and is a sign that there is a complication. The still born kittens are also a sign of a major problem and I reccomend Nosy be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible to prevent life-threatening complications. There are likely others kittens still in there and they can quickly cause problems if left too long. I reccomend not waiting longer than 24 hours to have her seen by a vet. I hope that helps and Nosy gets better soon.
