My dog got a minor head bite. Should I worry about infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

A dog at the small dog park by my apartment (more of a dog run) got aggressive as she went in there and bit my dogs head but didn’t cause a gash, just pulled a couple hairs out and some minor bleeding...anything I should be majorly worried about? Mind you it’s a very small area on the side of her head.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Bella. Oh no, poor girl! That's not cool another dog bit her. I would gently clean her wound with warm water and antiseptic soap. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and she will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!
