My dog's eyes are swollen and he's sluggish. Is it an emergency?

Got home from work and both my dogs eyes are swollen almost shut. When he slightly opens them it looks as though hes not looking straight or they are lazy. Seems sluggish maybe a little sick

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question. Poor Timbo. It may be he has injured his eye, gotten something in them, or has an eye infection. Any eye problem is considered an emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would take him into a vet immediately to get treated. Best of luck.

    Poor King! I can see the swelling. He could have a severe eye infection, allergies, or could have injured his eye. Any eye problem is considered an emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would take him into a vet now. Best of luck.

This is concerning and could be due to conjunctivitis as you pointed out though other possibilities such as a foreign body reaction, corneal ulcer or laceration or even inflammation of the periocular structures could also be going on. Regardless, this does warrant a visit to your veterinarian as soon as possible as he is likely painful. They would be able to examine his eye closely and start therapy based on findings. Thank ou for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Benny. Poor boy. He could have injured his eye or have a severe eye infection. Any eye problem needs to be checked out by a vet promptly as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I'd take him into a vet asap. I hope this helps!

My dogs left eye is swollen
Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. Swelling of one eye only suggests traumatic episode. It could be self-inflicted trauma from excessive scratching, or it may be a blunt injury from walking into something or being scratched by another animal. As there is a risk of damage to the cornea, I would suggest you to take Cooper to your local vets today to fully examine the eye and to get treatment for him.

Hi, thabks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Princess! The pictures are blurry but I am very concerned about her left eye. I'm worried about proptosis (eye has popped out of the socket) or glaucoma. Both are emergencies. I recommend that you take Princess to the emergency room. Good luck!

I have an 8 year old cockerlier, his eye looks swollen and almost shut. It seems to be bloody and maybe blood coming from corner. I can’t even touch it with out him whimpering. I tried using a antibacterial wipe
Poor guy! That does look painful. Get him in to an emergency hospital if at all possible, and if there is not one near you, call your vet's office for advise on how to receive care after hours. A few things could be going on--he may have an abscess of a tooth root, he may have an abscess behind his eye (retrobulbar abscess), he may have an injury to the eye itself, or glaucoma (increased pressure inside of the actual eyeball), or he may have been bitten or stung by an insect or other pest. You can try to put a cool cloth on it, as that may feel good once its on there (although he won't want you to put it there to start with.). Put an E-collar (cone of shame) on him so that he cannot rub at the eye or rub his face on the ground. If you happen to have some antibiotic EYE drops or EYE ointment at home (WITH NO STEROID included in it), you can put some of that into the eye while you are waiting to get him in to see a vet. Please do not give him any over the counter pain medicat

Hi I came home last night from work and my dogs eye was completely swollen, bloodshot red and he is unable to shut his eye, I went to the vet but I had to pay $98 in order for them to see him but I don’t have that right now . I just need to know what
Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. From the picture, it appears that the eye is much large than the left eye, indicating either trauma to the eye or a disease such as glaucoma. I suspect this is likely due to trauma. He may have fallen while at home and hit his head or ran into something and his eye is now wanting to fall out of the socket. I would recommend applying cool and warm compress to the eye to help take down some of the inflammation and placing a plastic cone around his neck so that he does not further traumatize the eye. I would recommend getting him in to see a veterinarian right away when you can so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps! I would also recommend giving Well and Good Buffered Aspirin for Dogs (can find at Petco). My dog has a swollen eye. He has not had any accidents or anything. I’ve been doing warm compress but not seeing any improvement. He doesn’t have any other symptoms and has been on the Same food which is pure balance salmon.

It would be best to have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment at this point as this may be something concerning such as a corneal injury if it is in the eyeball per se for example or due to an infection of the skin around it though it is not possible to know this based on a picture. Mickeys eye is swollen and he seems sleepier than usual. Appetite is fine and he's eating okay. He had diarrhea yesterday but today his stools were fine. His eye was fine yesterday, however. He isn't pawing at the eye or scratching it but he squints

This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, uveitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. Based on your description and the pictures you provided, it appears as though Brody is having an allergic reaction. I would recommend using Benadryl, which you can read about at this link ( https://www.petcoach.co/pet-medication/benadryl/ ). If there is no improvement, then I would seek an emergency veterinary hospital that is open 24 hours so you can get him seen sooner rather than later. I hope this helps! Yes, I see what you mean in the picture, George's eyes are swollen. More specifically, it's the skin around his eyes that are swollen. This can be a sign of an infection, an injury, or an allergy.
