My Akita has a bleeding lump on her elbow. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Akita | Female | unspayed | 5 years and 8 months old | 88.6 lbs

We got an akita from rescue 3 weeks she came with a lump on her arm by her elbow about 5x5cm. Lately its been bleeding and i have been cleaning it so she doesnt lick the blood off. We took her to the vets last week and she said its just dry skin because of her age. ( she is 5 years). However the lump is not dry and is bleeding. I can touch it and my dog doesnt mind or seem in pain at all but just want to know what it is and how to get rid of it.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Lexi. I am concerned that her elbow callus has become infected. She may require antibiotics to help it heal. In the meantime, have her sleep on soft surfaces. This will prevent any further trauma to the area. She will likely need to wear an E-collar as well to prevent her from licking. I hope this information helps!
