Adopted dog destroying home & crate. Could it be separation anxiety?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Great Pyrenees | Male | neutered | 100 lbs

I adopted a dog (Stixxs) over a month ago from the shelter. He’s been a good dog so far but as of recently, he’s been chewing up the couch, clothes, trashcan and everything under the sun. I bought him an xxl WIRE dog kennel (that I spent a hefty amount on) and I woke up to the kennel in PIECES! We tried training and he hasn’t responded to that. What am I doing wrong here seriously.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Stixxs. I recommend that he sees a veterinarian to discuss the possibility of separation anxiety. This is a potentially serious condition where the dog develops anxiety and destructive behaviors when left alone. If this is the case, it can be managed with behavioral modifications as well as medications. I hope this information helps!
