Why is my cat suddenly aggressive, sensitive, and losing weight?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 1 year and 3 months old | 8 lbs

My cat Mae Mae was recently showing unusual aggression towards me and my other two cats. She has a weird ripple in her back, hyperplasia is what the vet called it is think. When I took her yesterday she was very sensitive to touch like that and she was put on gabapentin to try and help the sensitivity. I also found out when I took her she went from 9lbs 6.5 oz to 8lbs 14oz in two months. We did blood work and nothing showed up.she is felv+ so it worried me a little. What could it be if anything?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This can due to discomfort so if that is the case now that she is on gabapentin she may do better. Unexpected aggression is a classic sign of pain or discomfort. Hopefully she improves on the gabapentin. If she does not, it is very important to let your veterinarian know so they can keep checking what may be wrong with her. The same underlying condition may be what is causing her weight loss which is important though not that significant. I hope she gets better soon!
