My dog's scrape isn't healing. He keeps licking it. Can I use antibiotics?

Pet's info: Dog | Husky | Male | neutered | 2 years and 1 month old | 50 lbs

Hi there, my dog got a scrape a size of a nickel on his leg about a week ago. It doesn't seem to be healing compleatly and keeping him away from licking it has been a challenge. I've put some neosporan on it 3 times now but was curious if I should begin antibiotic. No limping, but he is very attentive to it. We have antibiotics from his sx when he was fixed about a month ago, and if needed, would they be okay to use? ( Cephalexin 500mg)

Unfortunately, legally we are prohibited from telling you it is okay to start antibiotics. This has to come from your veterinarian after a physical exam. Inappropriate antibiotic use can lead to resistant bacteria. You shouldn't have any antibiotics "left over", it is always best to finish the course. You can place an e-collar (cone) on Apollo to prevent licking. This may be enough to allow for healing. Clean the area daily with a diluted Betadine or chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) solution. If there is no improvement in 2-3 days, have Apollo examined by your veterinarian.
