My indoor dog has flea dirt, but I don't see fleas. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | 3 years and 8 months old | 56 lbs

I took my dog to vet yesterday. She brushed her a bit where she was shedding and looked for hot spots. She stated she saw some flea dirt. I did miss a month of treatment. She is mostly indoors but I understand they can still pick up fleas. I havent seen any behavior in her to indicate fleas and i have checked her completely over and wiped her with a wet paper towel. I myself have seen no signs. The vet did change her med and she took it yesterday. I am still freaking out. What else can I do?

If you don’t see a bunch of fleas and you just have her the preventative, I wouldn’t worry too much. The times when people get into trouble with fleas is when there are a lot crawling on the pet, which means there are a ton in the house.
