Should I worry about a firm lump under my dog's nose? Vet or monitor?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 8 years and 7 months old | 45 lbs

Hi, I noticed a small papule-like lump under Olivia's nose, as shown in the photo. The lump is small and seems firm/solid, non-movable. It's not causing any pain and she's eating/going to toilet/playing/exercising normally. It can only be felt on the outside and cannot be felt on the inside of her inner lip. She's often out in the garden sniffing everything from bird droppings to grass, plants etc. Does this require a visit to the Vet or should I monitor it for now? Thank you.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Olivia. I'd just keep an eye on it for now. If it gets bigger, starts to bother her, turns red, or appears infected, then I would have her seen by a vet. Best of luck.
