My cat is coughing and wheezing, but it's not a hairball. Is she sick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My cat has been doing this weird coughing/wheezing lately, and I first thought it was a hairball, but no hairballs ever turn up, and shes never done this before for as long as we've had her (which is her whole life). Is this normal? I have a video but I don't think I can upload it.

Hi, and thanks for your question. This sign could be compatible with an upper respiratory tract inflammation/infection. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm this clinical suspicion and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.
