My cat has been doing this weird coughing/wheezing lately, and I first thought it was a hairball, but no hairballs ever turn up, and shes never done this before for as long as we've had her (which is her whole life). Is this normal? I have a video but I don't think I can upload it.

Hi, and thanks for your question. This sign could be compatible with an upper respiratory tract inflammation/infection. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm this clinical suspicion and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed. I am sorry to hear that Toby isn’t feeling 100%. Cats can cough for a variety of reasons including heartworm disease, allergic bronchitis, and fluid or masses in the lungs. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian soon. An X-ray may be recommended to help determine the diagnosis and best treatment plan. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
