Picky dog won't eat kibble. Is homemade chicken and tuna balanced?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Cocker Spaniel | Female | spayed | 1 year and 10 months old | 13 lbs

I have continued to try Sophie on various wet dog foods but she is very picky and does not want much. She wont eat any dry food at all unless its a few kibbles here and there. I have began to feed her cooked sweet potato and boneless chicken 1 time a day. I will switch the sweet potato out with brown rice and substitute tuna for the chicken. I want to know is this ok permanently and will she suffer in any way. She has no problems on this diet. Poop seems normal.

Thank you for contacting PetCoach with your question about Sophie. Unfortunately tuna and sweet potato are not a balanced diet for her, and I do not recommend it long term. If you want to make her food for her, check out these two websites below that have recipes for balanced and nutritious diets for dogs. I hope this helps! https://secure.balanceit.com https://www.petdiets.com
