How much oxalate is safe for my dog to prevent kidney stones?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hello! What is the ideal/maximum amount of oxalates (in mg/1000 kcal, for example) a dog diet should contain to prevent the formation of calcium oxalate stones in healthy dogs? I searched online, but could not find any reliable source of reference... Thank you!

I don’t think you can find this information anywhere! Ideally, the smallest amount as possible. If you are planning to cook a homemade diet, then choose foods lower in oxalates. But feeding a diet low in oxalates isn’t a guarantee that a dog won’t make them.
