My dog's surgical incision is swollen and bruised. Is it infected?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Pinscher | Female | unspayed | 12 years and 3 months old | 12 lbs

My dog had a cancer lump removed from her tummy 5 days ago... The sweeling and bruising has not gone away yet. Does this look like it may be infected? She does not act like she is in pain when I touch around it but she is still on pain meds and antibiotics. I habe tried ice and heat but she wont stay still for it to work.

It looks like there is accumulation of fluid (the cranial swelling) and inflammation of the surgical site. the rest of the wound looks like it is healing. a check up and physical examination it is essential in her case to rule out any accumulation of fluid (which could be even pus).
