My Maine Coon with heart disease lays head flat. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Male | neutered | 5 years and 9 months old | 20 lbs

My Main Coon cat diagnosed with cardiomyopathy a few years ago (on heart meds by the way)keeps on laying his head flat in front of him while laying down . I read many years ago that when a cat does that it’s a sign of a serious illness. First of all is that true and if it is could my baby have another possible serious illness ( lab work by the way is good) Thank You

It's not necessarily true. In pets with heart disease, more concerning is when they can't lay down or put their heads down because it makes it harder to breath. But if this is a new behavior, it is worth having Oliver checked out by his regular vet.
