My German Shepherd yelps in pain when jumping up. Is she injured?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | spayed | 4 years and 6 months old | 80 lbs

My 4 yr old German Shepherd is yelping in pain every time she jumps up on the couch or bed. No yelping while jumping down though. She’s eating and going to the bathroom fine, but sometimes she just looks like she’s in pain. What could be wrong?

Poor Violet! She is in pain. There could be several causes including an injury to her back, a calcified disc or a pinched nerve. Since she can’t talk and tell you what is wrong, I recommend to have her examined by the veterinarian today who can also give her medication to make her feel better. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
