Senior cat with kidney disease can't walk. Is he passing or injured?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 8 lbs

My cat is 18 and being treated for kidney problems. In the past 24 hours he has had increasing difficulty walking. Now his front paws are bent and he is barely hobbling. He is terrified at the vets office so only want to take him in if needed. If he’s passing, he would be better at home. Is this part of passing or is he injured?

Hi, it sounds like he is going to pass away, I would personally request a home visit so that he can be put to sleep without suffering . He could be going for days and it’s not fair on him in this condition. I understand why you don t want him to take to the vets, however at home it will be less traumatic and there is the option of giving him a sedation so that he does not realise so much what’s happening. Thinking of you at this difficult time,
