Why is my ball python not eating and has green powder in its tank?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Reptile | Other Snake | 1 month and 27 days old | 0 lbs

I have a pet ball python and i have been finding this strange light green powder-y substance in their tank and i don't know what it is. Is it something i should worry about? It appears all over the tank in small splodges. On top of that they have been refusing to eat so i had to force feed them because they've lost weight. I'm not sure what the problem is or if the green splodges have anything to do with it.

Thanks for reaching out about Peppo. Greenish powder would be suggestive of urates (kidney product) and the green can be a result of not eating well or liver disease. When they don't eat well, bile salts (used in digestion), aren't reabsorbed, are excreted in the kidneys. Liver disease can also result in the same situation. If continues to not eat, check and correct husbandry parameters. Persistent concerns need to be addressed with a veterinary visit. Good luck.
