Why is my cat acting strange after Advantage flea treatment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 12 lbs

Hi I gave my outdoor kitty his monthly dose of advantage today about 5 or 6 hours ago and he’s been acting odd, seems afraid of me now , runs out into yard away from me when I go out on patio. Just odd behavior. Could advantage make him feel not well? He’s eaten a little since the application. This is not the first time I’ve used advantage on him and he didn’t act like this the last time. Thx!

I wouldn't have a concern about Advantage for felines, especially if Cheeto has had it before. Sometimes the feeling of the medication on their skin can feel weird, and we apply it in an area so that they can't easily groom it off, which could cause some anxiety. Keep an eye on Cheeto and if he isn't back to normal in a day or two, have him examined by your vet.
