My senior dog screams from sudden front paw pain when standing.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 11 years and 10 months old | 70 lbs

My 12 year old dog is in pain in her right front paw when getting up from a laying position. She will eventually put a little weight on it and walk around, but going from laying to standing hurts her to the point of screaming at times. This happened kind of suddenly, we didn't see any symptoms or indications of anything before Monday. She used to give us her paw to hold (both dogs do that) but now gets upset if we try to touch it.

Leia sounds like she is in a lot of pain. She may have a broken bone. Leia needs to be examined by the veterinarian today. The veterinarian may need a radiograph to looks for breaks. She will also get pain medications which may help her to feel better. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
