Why has my ferret stopped pooping, has liquid stool, and won't eat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Ferret | Male | neutered | 4 years and 7 months old

My 4 year old ferret Loki has stopped pooping in the past 2 days. Very small liquid poops. He regularly drinks water but has also stopped eating. I gave him pumpkin purée to help loosen up his stool and he is starting to slowly poop more. He refuses to eat his dry food and has only been eating wet crushed food. I’m 100% he does not have a foreign object indigestion because he is always watched and he hates chewing on stuff. His poop started off like this before it stopped

Hi, and thanks for your question. These signs could be compatible with an inflammation infection of the gastrointestinal system and surrounding organs (like pancreas and liver). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is immediately essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics and possibly further investigations (like abdominal imaging as ultrasound or radiographs) may be needed.
