Why does my dog refuse to come home and drag his feet after walks?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rottweiler | Male | neutered | 6 years and 6 months old | 100 lbs

I have a 7 year old male Rottweiler who is very energetic and plays rough with his sister. But when I take him for walks he doesn’t wanna come back in. He’ll be pulling and walking fast until we turn around then he walks super slow and will eventually stop and I have to kinda drag him which ends in him being choked. Is this concerning or Is he just wanting to keep going for a walk? The last like 3 months he’s been doing it but it’s getting worse.

It sounds like he just doesn't want to end the walk! It is getting worse because he is getting better at making you take a longer walk ;) You can try saving a special toy or treat for when you are close to the house. Or play a quick game or some other really fun activity when you get back inside so that Grizzly knows that going home isn't a punishment.
