Pet's info: Dog | Rottweiler | Male | unneutered | 130 lbs
This bump or something on my dogs elbow/arm also a tiny one on his leg (don't know if its the same thing) what has caused this? Tried to do research and read that it is caused by laying on hard surfaces? Don't know if that is true or not.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Rocco. Tough thickened skin can develop on the dog's elbow from laying on rough or abrasive surfaces. So his lesion could be the start of a callus forming. There are, of course, other skin diseases that can have similar looks. It is best for him to see his veterinarian to determine if skin tests are needed and if the lesions are anything to worry about for him. I hope this information helps!

That doesn't look like a callus so I recommend getting it seen by your vet, the sooner the better. Your vet will do an exam, labwork, most likely sampling the tissue with a needle and syringe so the cells contained within can be examined under a microscope to determine what cells are causing the growth. Based on these results your vet will be better able to tell you what it is and how best to proceed from here with treatment if needed.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is hard to know without examining him. However, this is likely a callus which is basically caused by pressure on a bony protuberance. While this is normal and expected to some extent, you may be able to help Rocky by trying to have well-padded surfaces at home. That usually decreases the occurrence of calluses. Good luck and have a good night!

Hi there! It really depends on where this lesion is located. It looks like it is located close to a joint in the picture (such as the elbow). If that is the case then it looks like a callus which normally forms at pressure points like bony protuberances when dogs naturally pressure those parts against the floor when laying down for example. As long as it does not get inflammed or infected it is ok. You can avoid the progression of these by keeping him in well-padded surfaces. Good luck!
