Orphaned kitten ate cheese & sardines. How do I transition food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 13 days old | 0 lbs

We rescued an orphaned kitty 3 days ago &!have been bottle feeding supplement. We noticed her chewing on the nipple quite a bit. I just experimented, and she ate some cheese from my sandwich. We’re shocked. And she ate a tidbit of smashed up sardines. How should we feed her?

Kittens are weaned starting at 4 weeks old. id she is this age, start supplementing her with canned and dry kitten food. Do not feed her any more cheese or sardines. These may seriously upset her stomach. Here is a link about hand rearing kittens: https://www.petcoach.co/article/how-to-raise-orphan-kittens/ I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
