My dog squealed after cat play. Are eye injury signs immediate?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 6 months old | 20 lbs

My dog was playing with my cat and suddenly squealed in pain.. I didn’t see what my cat did to her, but I’m concerned.... If my dog got scratched in the eye from his claws, would she be showing signs of injury immediately after??? Right now she is acting completely fine, she isn’t pawing at her eye or squinting it.. do I need to be worried??

Yes, if Zoe was scratched on her eye, she would likely be squinting or not holding the eye all the way open. She may also quickly develop a watery discharge and redness to the eye. Watch her very closely for any of the symptoms and have her examined if they are noticed. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
