Pet's info: Dog | Tibetan Spaniel | Male | neutered | 13 years and 11 months old
Hi, my Tibetan Spaniel will be 14 years old in 4 days,in the last three weeks , while he's been asleep he makes a howl/bark sound, I go to him and his body is rigid, paws thrown outwards as if fending something off, I gently try to wake him, his eyes are partly open but he seems not to be aware of me or anything, when he wakes properly, after 5-10 mins, he has messed himself but doesn't appear to realize what has just happened, he is a bit dazed by it , I clean him and he sleeps. Please advise.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am afraid that you may be describing a seizure though it is not possible to say for sure without being able to see it. Seizures can occur due to many reasons that go from a toxicity, metabolic diseases, inflammatory diseases and even tumors. I highly recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment. Diagnostics that will be recommended will include bloodwork and advanced imaging such as an MRI. They would also be able to start him on anti-seizure medications to try to avoid the onset of more seizures. Good luck and have a good night! Hoping for a speedy recovery!
