Is it safe to ride my horse after a full pedal bone injury recovery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Farm Animal | Horse | Female | unspayed | 21 years and 7 months old

Georgie pedal bone had semi rotation, she has be on paddock rest for like last 12 months... My vet said that it has improved, and she doesn't show any signs of paddock lameness.. she also has front shoes on only to help her feet.. just wondering if it would be safe to ride her.. My vet and farrier said she should be okay for light rides but I'm scared I'll hurt her.. so my question is would it be save to give her a light ride with a walk and a trot just to get her moving, or am I better off days

If both your vet and farrier have approved light rides for Georgie, you might want to just try a short, easy ride in the arena, and then see how she does with plenty of rest in between. If she seems sound and isn't lame after, you can then see if she'll handle a gradual increase in activity, or if she requires more rest. A regular check-in with your vet and farrier afterwards to make sure there aren't any changes can also help you determine if you can continue with the rides over time.
