What to do if my yorkie has stomach pain after eating chicken fat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 3 years and 8 months old | 5 lbs

I have a 3 yo 5lb female spayed yorkie. I saw her eat a couple of blades of grass yesterday and she stole a small piece of very seasoned chicken fat from my plate. She was restless last night and today has had stomach pain. No diarrhea or vomiting, she has pooped 2 times today. I could hear her stomach earlier and she would cry out. She has been sleeping most of the day. While resting her belly is soft. She cries when she eats so food has been put up. Liquid has not been too bad on her.

Hello. It was good that you put Lily's food up. A small fast of 8-12 hours will not hurt, then tomorrow feed her very small amounts of plain cooked chicken breast, plain cooked white rice (preferably not minute rice) , & small amounts of lo-fat cottage cheese. Try this for about 24 hours & if she seems to be perking up, start to add back her regular diet. If she still seems to be having issues, please see your veterinarian to have her evaluated. I hope she is feeling better soon & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
