My dog's hair is falling out, and the vet ruled out mange. What's next?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi! My dog has had her hair falling out over the last few months. I took her to the vet & did a scraping that determined it's no mange. She's an inside dog & eats Wholehearted grain free. She's a Corgi-Jack Russell and dachshund mix

Hi and thanks for your request. Fungal infections and allergies are possible as well and should be put in differential diagnosis in this case. More skin tests (like hair plugs) and specific tests for allergies should be ideally performed. Once these differentials are ruled out, alopecia related to endocrine diseases (hypothyroidism and sexual hormones related one) should be considered as well and tested.
