My cat still has fleas after Advantage. What flea treatment can I use?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My 11 year old cat has fleas for first time. I used Advantage 11 on him 15 days ago, but still have fleas dropping off him onto me. Also using Diatomaceous Earth on all floors and vacuuming. Can I use SteelCoat Plus on him before the Advantage 30 days is up?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yes, you may in about 5-6 days. However, I would highly recommend you use a stronger and likely more efficacious product. There are plenty of flea products in the market and a lot of them are very effective. I prefer Bravecto and Frontline plus. You can pick one of those products. The nice thing about Bravecto is that it is very effective and it is only applied once every 3 months. You can also use a product called Capstar along with one of the previously mentioned products which can help kill a lot of fleas at once. Remember to vacuum all the surfaces that have contact with your pup regularly. This is very likely going to work well. Good luck and have a great day!

Most topical products have to have at least a 2 week lapse, so it is best to wait a full 2 weeks before applying the SteelCoatPlus if that is what you want to use. However, I would just suggest purchasing a higher quality flea product that will work the full 30 days such as Revolution or Cheristin. These are better products to use for your cat Shadow. I would also recommend using a flea fogger for environmental control. You can purchase this from your local Home Depot or Lowes. Best wishes with Shadow moving forward. Take care!
