My Yorkie won't stop biting himself. What's causing his skin issues?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | unneutered | 10 years and 2 months old | 9 lbs

My 10 year old Yorkshire terrier wont stop biting himself. It’s gone on for 4 weeks now and it’s not the first time he’s had it, though the first time it’s lasted this long. I’ve tried bathing him, rubbing cream, hayfever tablets. Below is one of the marks he’s had either of biting or what he’s trying to bite off

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Timmy. He sounds very itchy! If it has happened around this time in previous years, then I suspect seasonal allergies. He will need to see his veterinarian as he could have a secondary skin infection in the picture you attached. As far as longterm management, I would discuss the use of Apoquel or Cytopoint with his veterinarian. Both drugs control itching extremely well and are quite safe for dogs. I hope this information helps!
