Puppy's soft brown stools: Is it normal? How to firm up his poop?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 21 days old | 50 lbs

My puppy is having brown stools. It is soft to pick up though and little squirts of poop come out when he is almost finished going potty. Is this normal and is there something we can give him to firm up his stools? Thank you

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You can make sure that there is enough fiber in his diet. You can add canned pumpkin to add fiber to his diet which may help firm up his stools. You can add 1 tablespoon of canned pumpkin to his meals. You can also add probiotics such as Fortiflora. Best of luck!
