Why is my 5-month-old kitten meowing constantly and not eating?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Ocicat | Male | unneutered | 4 months old

Hi! My kitten of 5 months keeps meowing a lot like he's asking for attention, at first I thought he was just hungry but there's always a lot of food in his bowl so he probably doesn't like his food (dry food) so I tried giving him wet food but he eats just a little and meows really loud again (like dry food) and then I tried giving him sausages/chicken but the same thing. When I hold him and give him love he calms down and sleeps Ps.His mom and sister eat just fine! What could be wrong? Thanks!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This may be due to discomfort of some sort and that may be why he is not eating as well. I would recommend you consider going to your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They can then check for these and other possibilities so that hopefully therapy can be used accordingly. Best of luck!

I recommend taking Menace to a veterinarian. There are a few different things that can cause symptoms like this and without a complete physical examination or seeing the pet I cannot say how to treat without it. Your veterinarian can perform a complete physical examination and treatments to hopefully help Menace recover. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
