Dog vomiting white foam, not eating after flea treatment. Help!

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 13 years and 10 months old | 10 lbs

After my husband gave our yorkie poo the flea and tick application last week and a day later, he started throwing up and having diarrhea. He has stopped eating as well. He hasn't had a bowel movement since Friday, but he also has not eaten. THere is no more diarrhea, but he has been vomiting about every 15-30 minutes. His vomit today has been white slimy foam. What could this be?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Gizmo. Poor boy. It could be he is experiencing an abnormal reaction to the flea medication, but it could also be he has a severe illness like kidney disease, GI illness, liver disease, heart disease, or even cancer causing his symptoms. He sounds extremely sick, and I do not think you should wait until tomorrow to take him into a vet. You need to take him into an ER vet immediately. Best of luck.
