My dog has worms in her poop. Is there an affordable OTC dewormer?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Redbone Coonhound | Female | spayed | 7 months and 28 days old | 52 lbs

Maggie went to the bathroom today and there were worms (hookworms it looked like from pictures online) in her feces. I am afraid I can’t afford the vet bill and wanted to know what I can do or if there is an over the counter medicine recommended.

You can't visually tell the difference between hookworms and roundworms. Thankfully, treatment is similar. You can use an OTC dewormer like the one linked below. Make sure to follow the label directions and repeat in 3-4 weeks to completely clear the worms. https://www.petsmart.com/dog/dental-care-and-wellness/treatments/sentry-worm-x-plus-7-way-broad-spectrum-dog-de-wormer---2-pack-13328.html
