My cat is making strange snorting sounds. When should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Ragdoll | Female | spayed | 8 years and 3 months old | 8 lbs

My (indoor) 8yo cat has had a fit (maybe around 15-45 seconds each) of this sneezing/snorting sound twice in the past few days (maybe 3-4 days). It sounds similar to recorded videos of "reverse sneezing", although I'm not 100% sure that is what happened. She seems to be eating/drinking/acting normally and she is up to date on all her vaccines (last vet visit maybe 6mo ago). Since she has never made this sound before, should I take her to the vet or is this not a cause for concern yet?

Since it only happened twice and Hope is otherwise acting normally, I'd keep an eye on her for now. If this keeps happening, then I would have her seen by a vet. Try to get a video of it happening to show the vet. Best of luck.
