Why does my dog's heart beat super fast when excited or playing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Poodle | Female | spayed | 2 years and 2 months old | 9 lbs

Might be a dumb question but when my dog gets overly excited, like when we go out or she’s playing too much, her heart beats super fast and hard. My family’s concerned it might be a bigger issue than it seems.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. No, this isn't a dumb question at all! When a dog gets excited or plays heavily, the heartbeat naturally increases. It's normal to see this increase, and in some dogs, it may be super fast and hard. Now without seeing Yeti in person, I can't say for certain it is normal, so I do recommend a vet visit just to be safe. I hope this helps!
