Red spot on dog's belly growing, not bothering her. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 2 years and 7 months old | 52 lbs

Hi! My two year old dog has a red area on her belly/upper thigh. It keeps getting bigger but it doesn't seem to bother her one bit. It's quite humid and hot out but she's inside most of the time where it's cool. She has a vet appointment in a few weeks for an unrelated issue but I'm wondering if I should take her in before that day to have this treated. Any ideas what it could be and if I need to worry?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is likely some local irritation. This may be due to allergies for example. It may be an allergy to something specific in the environment or something else like fleas or food. This may go away on its own if it is something minor. However, if this continues, I recommend you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Best of luck!
