How to protect my pet canary from cooking fumes near its cage?

I have a CANARY. HIS CAGE IS ABOVE A COLD aIR vENT IN THE FLOOR. cOOKING FUMES COME UP FROM THE bASEMENT WHERE MY BOARDER COOKS AND FRIES. hE WILL USE EITHER STAINLESS STEEL OR cAST IRON, INSTEAD OF tEFLON OR NON-STICK FRYPANS, WHICH HAS KILLED MY cANARY. wILL THE FUMES FROM THE bASEMENT KILL MY NEXT cANARY? iF SO, WHAT DO i COOK WITH, AND FRY WITH?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The cage should not be close to the vent where all these fumes are coming out of regardless of the material used. I would recommend you consider moving the cage somewhere else. That is the most effective, easiest and safest way to prevent this. Have a good day!

    You can use stainless steel and cast iron. Non stick cookware is only unsafe when it becomes overheated. It would be best to keep the canary as far away from the stove/kitchen as possible to avoid drafts or rapid swings in temperature.
